TEACHING AT THE INSTITUTE

I am completing a fascinating journey. I’ve been teaching a course for the Metropolitan Psychoanalytic Institute entitled: “Techniques for the More Disturbed Child”. It has been one of great learning for the students and for myself, as I have been able to put into perspective, the many types of children and adolescents I’ve worked with. I’ve had the opportunity to facilitate the candidate’s growth and potential for work with traumatized children and the subsequent diagnoses that may incur. This includes psychosis, PTSD, borderline and conduct disorders. Sharing some of my case examples has been of great value for the students and it is my hope that they will take this into their beginning practices and cultivate what they have begun to understand. This is primarily to do with techniques for the children that may land in the hospitals or therapeutic communities, if they do not receive the proper care when needed, (when first diagnosed). This course has taken much of my “free” time for the last eight months and further cements in my mind, the infinite complexity of the human mind. I hope that anyone reading this with any questions about children and their mental health might view my website, rkanetherapy.com.
