SPRING: THE SEASON OF HOPE

In a few more 24 hour periods, the season of Spring will arrive, whether or not it registers a more balmy temperture on the thermometer outside. I celebrate the Spring Equinox in a ceremony designed to honor and internalize the four directions based from ceremonies of the indigenous cultures of this country. Spring is a fragile and precious time of year when the trees, which have stood so bare and stolid thru the winter, literally burst forth with blooms of color, announcing like a harp that has been strummed, their individuality in the way they will carry forth thru the upcoming warmer seasons. Forsythia, apple blossoms, cherry blossoms, wisteria vines, azalea –. Along the forest floor -daffodils, tulips, lilies of the valley, violets —

It is now possible to take a walk, perhaps in Central Park, and engage with the this burgeoning kaleidoscope, each week colors appearing and then disappearing, making way for new. It becomes possible to perhaps dream, to ponder, to meditate, to come to terms with aspects of our lives that may have been put on the back burner the past few months.

We all have this priceless opportunity to turn inwards and breathe in this beauty. This can be part of our day that we can take with us – into our jobs, our relationships. We can feel the upcoming warmth, take in the scent, view the colors and listen to the lilting sounds of the returning birds.

This hope is real. You can count on it to unfold and offer its blessings to you. I hope you will engage with this most magical of seasonal changes and allow the hope to aid in any healing you may need in your own life.
