HAPPINESS AND HOW TO ALLOW YOURSELF TO FEEL IT

IT’S MID SUMMER AND WHAT A TIME AND PLACE TO FIND SOME HAPPINESS IN YOUR LIFE! MANY PEOPLE WHO FEEL DEPRESSED OR ANXIOUS SEE HAPPINESS AS SOMETHING THEY MUST “WORK” TOWARD OR “OBTAIN” AS A BENEFIT OF SOMETHING ELSE THEY HAVE ENDEAVORED.

STRESS: HOW TO HANDLE IT NO MATTER WHAT

Within the course of a day, I encounter clients that are enduring extreme difficulties and frankly desperate situations. My clients often amaze me as they appear to have some skills to be able to handle these stressful circumstances, even though they don’t seem to realize their current resourcefulness. Their vision is sometimes clouded, to see that they do have some degree of workable coping mechanisms.

MEMORIES THAT ALWAYS RING A BELL

Strange to have a memory occur and then re-occur and re-occur again. If allowed, it tends to melt into another related story and sometimes we become lost in the world of the past. Perhaps this is a source of joy and contentment or may not be wanted and we attempt to re-direct those thoughts as quickly as possible.

SUMMER’S LITTLE NECESSITIES

The release of the summer vacation, the need for all NYers – TO GO AWAY – no matter what your position in life – or your budget – or the size of your family. We all NEED to vacate the locale where we spend endless hours doing our good work. This capacity, to go to a entirely different place (most anywhere outside of NYC qualifies) refreshes and resets the mind, body and spirit.

LIFE MAKES OTHER PLANS

Recently I was scheduled to attend a week of what I thought was going to be a challenge for me but a blissful one at the same time. I had registered for a week of meditation at an upstate Yoga and Health Center I have been going to for years with much success, always walking away with deep sense of fulfillment and peace. However, life had completely other plans for me in the past few weeks.

PROFOUND LEARNING

I’ve recently come back after studying a week of Cherokee bodywork at a center in Massachusetts called Kripalu. You might want to look up this center, as it provides, it seems, almost something for anyone who is seeking to better themselves , emotionally, physically or spiritually.

SPRING: THE SEASON OF HOPE

In a few more 24 hour periods, the season of Spring will arrive, whether or not it registers a more balmy temperture on the thermometer outside. I celebrate the Spring Equinox in a ceremony designed to honor and internalize the four directions based from ceremonies of the indigenous cultures of this country.

THE OLYMPIAN SPIRIT

It has been a great opportunity, that I have had in the past week, to be a “part” of the Olympic journey thru the lens of my TV. I am sure anyone who has been watching this superlative, ongoing, set of day by day adventure stories will agree that it is more than captivating.

TEACHING AT THE INSTITUTE

I am completing a fascinating journey. I’ve been teaching a course for the Metropolitan Psychoanalytic Institute entitled: “Techniques for the More Disturbed Child”. It has been one of great learning for the students and for myself, as I have been able to put into perspective, the many types of children and adolescents I’ve worked with.
